We welcome pitches that bring care and clarity to the lives around sport. A strong proposal has a distinct question, a clear reader in mind and a subject that can be handled respectfully without turning a person into a symbol or a result.

What we welcome

Pitch an original explainer, comparison, historical account, myth-check or occasion-based guide about identity, relationships, transitions, interests or public life in sport. We favour evergreen ideas that explain why a detail matters and what a reader can take from it. We are not seeking match reports, promotional profiles or unsupported claims about private lives.

What to include

Send a working title, a short summary of the central idea, the section you think fits and a few sentences on how the piece would unfold. Say what makes the subject distinct from existing coverage and note any sources or permissions the idea would require. Keep the pitch focused; a complete draft is not needed at the proposal stage.

How to send a proposal

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then state clearly that your message is a contribution pitch. Sending an idea does not guarantee publication. We consider proposals for fit, originality, clarity and responsible handling, and may ask for changes before accepting a piece.
