About

Modern Athletes Stories is an editorial publication about the lives athletes build around sport. It is for curious readers who want to understand the person behind a public role, without reducing that person to a performance or assuming that every story follows the same path.

What we cover

Our subjects include identity, relationships, changing roles, interests outside sport and the experience of being seen in public. We look for useful ways to understand those subjects, such as how a sporting role can shape daily routines or why an interview offers only one view of a person. We do not treat a private life as public property.

How we approach a story

We explain the idea behind a piece before asking readers to follow its implications. We distinguish a general observation from a claim about a particular person, avoid guessing at private feelings, and make room for different experiences. Our planned articles favour evergreen topics that readers can consider without needing statistics, professional advice or local rules.

Who it is for

The publication is for readers who enjoy sport but are equally interested in the people, relationships and ordinary choices around it. No specialist knowledge of a sport is needed. We aim to make each piece clear, measured and respectful of the limits of what can responsibly be said.
